Thinking about starting a money-making blog? If so, you want to make sure it’s fantastic from Day 1. One of the worst things that you could do is to get through all the blog-starting steps and start turning away your new visitors. You want to impress them the first time they visit your website.
In order to be successful, there are 8 steps that you should take before you start a blog, or even sign up with a web hosting service.
This will help you to:
- Offer amazing content to your viewers from Day 1,
- Connect with your audience the first time they visit your site, and
- Begin an email list immediately and start growing your audience
Who doesn’t want that, right?
Why You Should Plan Before You Start a Blog
Many people get excited about the blogging hype and click the first web hosting service link in sight, and then wonder what to do next. Or, they sign up with a host, read some posts about how to start a blog, and throw it together. Then they sit back and wonder why no one is visiting their site…or why the ones who are visiting aren’t sticking around.
It takes a lot of work to set up a good blog. You don’t want to waste all of that effort just to turn traffic away because your site is lacking something. You want to give new visitors an amazing first impression, offer them something useful, and keep them coming back for more. Isn’t that the whole point of blogging? Let’s get to the steps.
Before You Start a Blog: 8 Steps
You could just wing it, and hope that you do okay. Or you could take the time to prepare beforehand, and ensure that you start off on a good note. If your goal is to make money, you should definitely take these 8 steps before you start a blog.
1) Choose your niche
Every blog needs a niche. That doesn’t mean that you can only ever write about Cajun recipes, but you should have a focus. And yes, “lifestyle” is a niche. 😉
2) Find your niche on Pinterest
Pinterest is awesome. Period. So search for your niche there to see what other bloggers are pinning within your niche.
3) Write a purpose statement
What is the main reason that you started a blog? What do you hope to accomplish? It’s always best to know what your purpose is, so your plans can succeed.
4) Decide on a name
Once you know your niche ad the purpose of your blog, it will be easier to come up with a name. Make it something that is meaningful AND simple, so your tribe can easily remember it.
5) Write an About page
Your About page is one of the most important parts of your blog, since people want to connect with you – not just the info that you provide.
6) Write some posts!
This is the fun part. Even though you haven’t launched your blog yet, go ahead and write some great articles. This way, you will not be at a loss for content once you launch.
7) Create a freebie
Your visitors are going to want a good reason to stay. Obviously, having great content is one reason. But if you want loyal subscribers, you better have something free to offer them!
8) Write a welcome email
Hopefully you will be getting some subscribers within your first week or two…so you need to have an email ready to welcome them and remind them of the reason they subscribed.
Now it’s time to launch!
