10 Relax Tips for Moms to Unwind in 20 Minutes or Less
Being a mom is amazing, but we all know how exhausting it can be too. Unfortunately, we don’t always have a lot of time to unwind when we need to. As a work-from-home mom, practically every moment of my day is spent with little ones running around, That’s why I am sharing my favorite relax tips for moms. These are short and sweet ways to de-stress so you can get on with your day.
Why We Need to Take Time to Relax
“Enough!!!” Yes, I really shouted it…at my two sweet little boys. I am generally a pretty patient mom, and my boys are generally well behaved, so this was an unusual occurrence. They had been screaming, tearing up the entire first floor, and bombarding me with requests (like “baba!” and “I play with markers?”) the entire afternoon, and I had just had all I could take.
It seems so trivial, because they were just being toddlers, but some days are harder than others. You know what I’m talking about, so please don’t judge! It was definitely time to take a time out. Since then, I have tried implementing these simple relax tips before my patience gives way!

1) Make a Cup of Relaxing Tea
Believe it or not, there are some pretty powerful teas out there. When I need to de-stress, I immediately grab a cup and make some of this amazing tea. It is a potent blend of eluthero, peppermint, and other tension-easing herbs. It won’t put you to sleep, but it will ease your tension for sure.
2) Practice Deep Breathing
I don’t just mean take a deep breath, but actually use a deep breathing technique. You should imagine your lungs filling up with air as you inhale through your nose. Then exhale through your mouth, blowing out as much air as you can. Do this for several minutes, and you will begin to feel relief.
3) Treat Yourself to a Quick Massage
Sounds dreamy, right? You don’t have time for a professional massage, but this is the next best thing. I use a handheld massager for my neck, shoulders, and back, and it packs a punch! It even has a heating option to sooth tired muscles as it massages away the tension.
4) Take a Cat Nap
That’s all you’ll have time for anyway! It may sound silly, but taking a 15 minute nap will be much more relaxing than plopping down on the couch for the same amount of time. Sometimes, when the boys go down for a nap, I will take a short nap myself. It helps ease tension, and is quite refreshing.
5) Stretch it Out
Stretching not only improves your flexibility, but it also helps with relaxation. Check out this 15 minute video tutorial on relaxing stretches. If you want to make it more comfortable, you can do the routine on a super cute exercise mat like this one.
6) Go for a Quick Walk
Blowing off a little steam can release some pressure. If you are nearing the end of your patience reserve, step outside and take a quick walk. The little ones can go in the stroller, and you can pop in your headphones if you need to! These stylish bluetooth headphones are perfect for popping on during a stroll.
The best relax tip is to pray, of course! Connecting with God and laying your cares at His feet definitely eases the stress of your day. When we focus on Him, instead of our momentary craziness, our minds and hearts can get to a much better place quickly. Check out this free 5 day email prayer challenge from moms!
8) Diffuse Essential Oils
Essential oils come in handy for so many daily things, including winding down and reducing stress. Ylang ylang is one of my favorites. I also make a relaxing blend of spearmint and eucalyptus. Some other great essential oils for relaxation are bergamot, lavender, Roman chamomile, and vetiver. This ultrasonic diffuser is so stylish, you may just want to add it to your home decor collection!
Note: make sure you only use high quality, pure essential oils. Otherwise, they can be laden with toxins, which defeats the purpose! 😉
9) Put in Some Headphones
You could listen to some relaxing tunes, or you could just tune everything out. Either way, headphones can give you the selective hearing you need to relax for a few minutes. I’m always behind the times, but I recently saw these cordless headphones. Where have these been all my life?!
10) Take a Hot Shower
One of my favorite relax tips is to just stand in a hot shower. I use this relaxing aromatherapy body wash to make it even more worth my while. The hot water beating against sore muscles provides pretty fast relief. I absolutely love this massaging shower head for the full effect (I won’t tell you that it’s temperature controlled…or that it has color changing LED lights…I’ll keep that a secret). You can also diffuse stress-reducing essential oils during your shower. Make the most of this 15-20 minutes!
Take Time for Yourself
As moms, we often forget to take care of ourselves, because we are so busy taking care of everyone else. But utilizing some of these relax tips on a regular basis will help maintain some balance. We are better moms when we are happy moms, so take some time for yourself today! Even if it means waking up 30 minutes early…or during the middle of the night, for some of us!…take a small chunk of time to really unwind and take care of Mama!
